JAMES FREEMAN, MA, CYC-P is an author, trainer, and speaker with over 30 years of experience in organizational leadership and youth/family services. His career has spanned classroom teaching, school administration, after school programs, family camping, and therapeutic care settings.
He’s a past president of the Child and Youth Care Certification Board and associate editor for the International Child and Youth Care Network. He is a Senior Trainer for the Academy for Competent Youth Work and a Master Trainer for the Life Space Crisis Intervention Institute.
He holds a master’s degree in organizational leadership from Biola University. He is a recipient of the career achievement award from the National Staff Development and Training Association and the President’s Award from the Association for Child and Youth Care Practice.
James has contributed several publications - and edited hundreds of articles - featured in various journals and books around the globe.
He has been involved in the evolution of the Standards for Practice of North American Child and Youth Care Professionals and the Competencies for Professional Child and Youth Work Practitioners. He also served on an international working group which established standards in sport for kids participating in community-based initiatives alongside Olympic/Paralympic and World Cup events.
James and his wife, Julie, have been married for 24 years. They have three kids and live in southern California where Julie is an award-winning teacher in the local public school district.
